New covid cases: 231 in Donegal, 93 in Sligo and 24 in Leitrim



In the latest daily Covid figures announced yesterday evening, 231 cases were reported for Donegal, 160 for Cavan, 93 for Sligo and 24 for Leitrim.

The chief medical officer says the number of people who die after contracting Covid-19 is likely to increase in the coming days and weeks.

Dr Tony Holohan’s comments’ come after another 17 deaths were confirmed last night, along with a record 7,832 cases.

The number of people in hospital with Covid has reached a new peak, of 954, while NPHET will meet this morning to discuss the crisis.

From Saturday, British and South African visitors to Ireland will have to prove they’ve tested negative for Covid.

But Dr Gerald Barry, a virologist in UCD, says that should be extended.
