Council, gardai say people farther than 5km from an amenity cannot access it

Sligo County Council and Sligo gardai have issued a statement this afternoon confirming that people living within a 5km distance of a beach or recreation area are not prevented from accessing the facility.

However, they say social distancing measures must be observed at all times.

However, people should not travel beyond 5km to an amenity area.

The clarification from the council and the gardai follows queries from the public after the announcement yesterday of restrictions on access to beaches and amenity areas in the county.

People travelling more than 5km are not permitted access to amenity areas.

The joint statement says gardai will be monitoring the various locations to ensure compliance with current national guidelines .
