Five year funding assured for Sligo secondary school

A Sligo secondary school that feared closure last year is now safe for the next five years.

A major campaign ensured that St Mary’s College in Ballisodare in County Sligo remained open after
the trustees — the Catholic Education Irish Schools Trust or CEIST — confirmed it has deferred a proposed closure

Now, the Department of Education has committed to funding the school for the next five years.

Sligo Councillor Marie Casserly is a teacher in the school.

She says the latest news is a welcome boost and gives certainty to students, parents and teachers.
