Council asked investigate Ballymote flooding

Sligo County Council is being called on to investigate flooding that occurs during winter in the south Sligo town of Ballymote.

The flooding is from a river that flows along regional road 293 and which goes through Ballymote town park.

The river recently overflowed its banks, flooding homeowners and businesses.

Parts of the town park were also impassable and waterlogged.

The Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, Fine Gael Councillor Dara Mulvey, is asking for the river to be surveyed to see if there are blockages.

He also says some homeowners cannot get insurance as a result of the flooding and he wants to know if funding can be allocated or applied for to help them.
