Cleanup crew on site of Larkhill Road fire

A company specialising in the cleanup of hazardous materials is on the site of where a small fire broke out in Sligo this morning.

A small number of houses were evacuated this morning after a fire broke out at a garage at 5am at Larkhill Road  emitting low levels of asbestos.

Households within a 150 metre radius have been asked to keep windows and doors shut as a precautionary measure as Sligo County Council await an inspection by the Health and Safety Authority.

The fire has been brought under control by Sligo Fire Service and the asbestos material has been dampened down.

Larkhill Road is closed to traffic with local diversions in place.

Acting Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer with Sligo Fire Service, Tom O’Boyle, gave an update to OceanFM News this afternoon.

He says a specialist company has been brought in to carry out the cleanup process.
