Concern over Donegal’s 14 Day incidence rate

The latest set of 14 day incidence rates shows all 5 local electoral areas below the national rate of infection which stands at 80.2. per 100,000 head of population.

The data was gathered between November 24th and December 7th.

In Sligo there were less than 5 cases registered in the Sligo/Drumcliff area.  In Sligo Strandhill there were 8 cases registered, or 37.9 per 100,000 of population.

while 11 cases were noted in the Ballymote Tubbercurry local electoral area which produced a figure of 41.2.

5 additional cases of Covid were confirmed during this period in Manorhamilton local electoral area or 46.2 when measured per 100,000 of population.

18 Cases were recorded in the Donegal Local electoral area which resulted in a figure per 100,000 head of population of 67.9.

However the figures for the rest of the County makes for more alarming reading.  The 14-day incidence rate of Covid-19 in one particular is over six times the national average.

In the Carndonagh local electoral area, it was nearly 519.

Donegal also had the LEA with the country’s second highest rate – that was Letterkenny, at 322.
