Farmers must be aware of Land designations

A Sligo farm leader is highlighting the importance of farmers being aware of the consequences that land designations could have for them and their areas.

Colm O’Donnell, president of the Irish Natura and Hill Farmers Association, has cautioned against the prospect of more land designations.

The Kilmactigue man also says the Common Agricultural Policy must not discriminate against farmers on environmentally sensitive lands.

Mr O Donnell was speaking during the INHFA’s annual general meeting last Friday, which was held on zoom.

Agriculture Minister and Donegal TD Charlie McConalogue participated in the meeting.

Mr O Donnell says his association is all for biodiversity but is firmly against more EU land designations, as he explained to Ocean FM’s Farm News.
