Donegal councillor calls for confiscated crime proceeds to be spent locally

A Donegal councillor is calling for money from the proceeds of crime to be used to support local addiction services.

Independent Councillor Niamh Kennedy has proposed that the council write to the ministers for Justice, Finance and Public Expenditure outlining her proposal.

She is asking that drug and drug trafficking money confiscated under proceeds of crime legislation be redirected from central coffers into local addiction services, youth organisations and community initiatives.

She told Ocean FM News that it’s important the law is changed to help fight addiction in communities.
