No funding available to improve safety at Ballymote junction

A Sligo councillor is raising concern over the lack of funding available to address a dangerous junction in the town of Ballymote.

A new nursing home facility in Ballymote and 8 additional homes at the Cuan Íosa estate, which allows elderly people to live independent, have been completed in recent years.

But the Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, Dara Mulvey, says the junction at the entrance to the estate is dangerous.

The area is mainly used by residents, HSE staff and locals.

Cllr Mulvey raised the issue at the Regional Health Forum West meeting this week, where representatives from the HSE said there is no funding available to carry out the works and that they are not included in the ‘Ballymote Community Nursing Unit 2023’ plan.

Speaking to OceanFM News, Councillor Mulvey says he will continue to seek funding for the safety works to be carried out.
