Hospital helicopter pad to be ready in six weeks

The helicopter pad at Sligo University Hospital is expected to be fully operational in six weeks.

The pad hasn’t been in operation since 2017; refurbishment works began in October this year.

Leas-Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, Donal Gilroy, highlights the rescue of four swimmers at Rosses Point over the weekend as an example where the pad is needed.

Of the four swimmers who got into difficulty, two were airlifted by Rescue 118 to Strandhill and then transferred to Hospital by ambulance.

Speaking to OceanFM News, the Fianna Fail Councillor says the patients of the north west deserve a direct path to the hospital as ‘every moment is vital’ in emergency situations.
