Harkin hopes Lough Talt Boil Water Notice will be lifted in time for Christmas

After more than three years, there are hopes the Boil Water Notice on the Lough Talt Water Scheme in South Sligo will finally be lifted in time for Christmas.

Almost 13,000 people in the area have been on a Boil Water Notice since cryptosporidium was discovered in the supply.

The Notice had been lifted in October 2018 but was reissued in January 2019.

Sligo/Leitrim Independent TD Marian Harkin says Irish Water told her yesterday (Tue) evening that it hopes the HSE and the EPA will allow lifting of the Boil Water Notice in two weeks time.

Local Fine Gael Councillor Martin Connolly says the lifting of the Boil Water Notice on the Lough Talt Supply Scheme would be one of the best Christmas gifts people in the South Sligo and Ballymote area could get.
