Sligo County Council has set aside funding it its annual budget for a programme and events manager.
The decision was among those taken at the council’s budget meeting yesterday.
The proposal to have an events manager was made earlier this year by Fine Gael Councillor Thomas Walsh.
He pointed out that one of the key recommendations of County Sligo’s tourism strategy until 2023 was the delivery of a planned and coordinated event and festival series that would attract overnight stays.
