Planning application for Rosses Point sewerage plant

Irish Water is to submit a planning application to Sligo County Council for the construction of an upgraded sewerage scheme in Rosses Point.

The project will include the upgrading of the pumping station in the village and building new underground stormwater storage tanks.

The pumping station at Ballyweelin is to be demolished and a new one built in it’s place while the sewer network of Rosses Point will also be expanded.

Local Independent Councillor, Marie Casserly says it’s an extensive project that is long overdue.

Meanwhile, there are calls for an update from Irish Water on upgrading the water treatment plant around Mullaghmore.

Fianna Fail Councillor Donal Gilroy says while the utility is seeking planning permission for upgrade works at Rosses Point, it could be a number of years before the same can be said for Mullaghmore.

Bathing bans have been placed a different occasions over the years especially in summer time when tourists flock to Mullaghmore

Speaking to OceanFM news, Councillor Gilroy says we have to keep ‘striving for excellence’ when it comes to waste water treatment.
