CMO fears we are complacent in Covid fight

The Chief Medical Officer is warning that we need to make up for the time lost over the last week, when the decline of Covid-19 stalled.

Daily case numbers had been declining rapidly during the first three weeks of level 5 restrictions, but this stopped suddenly over the last seven days.

In the latest set of Covid-19 figures released by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre there were 4 additional deaths associated with the virus.  Confirmation was also provided of 429 new cases of the Coronavirus in the Republic of Ireland.

Locally there were 26 new cases in Donegal, while the daily numbers in both Sligo and Leitrim were less than 5.

Dr Tony Holohan says people have taken their “foot off the gas”.
