Sligo Publican claims ban on take-away pints is over the top

A Sligo Publican has rejected calls for a ban to be imposed on take-away pints and alcohol from pubs.

Calls have been made for such a ban to be introduced in order to reduce the number of people gathering in groups.

Footage emerged over the weekend of crowds drinking on streets in Dublin.

Sligo Publican Blaine Gaffney provides a takeaway and delivery service.

He says calls for a ban like this are over the top and would be the final nail in the coffin for struggling pubs that are trying to generate some form of income by providing a deliver and takeaway service during the latest set of restrictions.
