Leaving Cert 2020 to get underway this evening

It may be mid-November, however today will signal the start of Leaving Cert 2020 for students across the north west.

Nationally more than 2,500 students will start their delayed Leaving Cert this evening.

Biology is the first subject – with the exam starting at 5.30pm.

There are also extra-special arrangements in place for any candidate who is a close contact of a confirmed Covid-19 case.

The number of candidates is around 4pc of those who planned to sit the exams in June.

Exams will run in the evenings and over weekends until December 11. Another 60 adult learners and early school-leavers are sitting postponed Junior Cert exams.

Candidates will be scattered across 574 schools or other centres, in every county including Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal, with adequate room for social distancing.

The results will be available no earlier than February.
