Student nurses playing central role during Covid-19

The need to ensure student nurses are paid for their work in hospital settings was raised in the Dáil yesterday by a number of Deputies including the Sligo Leitrim TD Marc MacSharry.

Calls have been made to properly compensate those in their first, second and third years of study who are now finding it difficult to support themselves through college.

Many student nurses also relied on part-time work in private care homes to help pay for third level education.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, the president of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, Donegal native Karen McGowan says that student nurses have played a central role on the frontline in the fight against Covid-19
