Primary and Secondary schools in the north west to benefit from €55m grant



Primary and Secondary schools across Sligo, leitrim and Donegal are to benefit from a €55m grant.

The funds, announced by Minister for Education Norma Foley, are for minor works that need to be carried out such as implementing physical distancing procedures, enhancing ventilation and adapting toilet areas.

Non fee paying Primary schools will benefit from an automatic flat rate of €5,500 plus €18.50 for each pupil and €74 fper student with special needs.

While non fee paying Secondary schools will receive a basic payment of €10,000, €55 per student and €220 per special needs student.

All fee paying schools will have to apply separately for funding if they require it.

Speaking to OceanFM News, Minister of State for Public Health and Sligo/Leitrim TD, Frank Feighan, says the funds are vitally important for schools during Covid-19.
