There is concern for the future of the iconic building in the south Sligo town of Ballymote that has been home to the post office for generations.
Post office counter services are moving to a new, nearby location.
But while the retention of counter services in the town is welcomed, there are fears that, eventually, the sorting office in the current post office building, on the top of The Rock, may also close.
Sligo County Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Dara Mulvey says the question then arises as to what may happen the building, which is a landmark structure in a central location in Ballymote.
