New fears over future of post offices



There is renewed concern about the future of rural post offices.

A new report by accounting firm Grant Thornton says €17m investment is needed to save the postal network.

The report is predicting major revenue losses for the sector and says that unless the government intervenes, there will be further closures by the end of 2021.

Sligo Sinn Fein Councillor, Thomas Healy, says there has already been a number of closures in recent years, such as in Ballintogher, Sooey, Geevagh, Maugherow, and Gurteen, all in County Sligo alone.

He fears more will close if the government does not act.
