Leitrim without Ryan O’Rourke for Mayo clash



Leitrim forward Ryan O’Rourke will miss this Sunday’s Connacht senior football championship quarter-final against Mayo in Carrick-on-Shannon.

The Fenagh/St Caillin’s clubman, who has been the county’s marquee forward in 2020, injured his knee against Tipperary in the league last Sunday, and isn’t named in Terry Hyland’s starting 15.

Evan Sweeney is named in the full forward line along with Shane Quinn and Keith Beirne – although Quinn could well be deployed further out the field.

Donal Wrynn is named at full-back and looks set to be the man detailed to mark Mayo’s Aidan O’Shea.

Team captain Paddy Maguire and Jack Gilheaney have both been named in the half-forward line altought the expectation is that both men will play more defensive roles on Sunday.

Mayo have named seven championship newcomers in their line-up for Sunday.

Aidan O’Shea is again named at full forward alongside fit-again Cillian O’Connor.

Sunday’s match will be live on Ocean FM From 1:15pm with commmentary from Rian Bailey and Martin McGowan. Extra-time and penalties will be played if necessary.

The winners will face Roscommon in the Connacht semi-final next Sunday (Nov 8th).
