Kenny not happy with Covid-19 legislation on fines

A Sligo/Leitrim TD is criticising the new law which gives gardaí the power to issue on-spot fines for not complying with public health guidelines.

The controversial legislation was signed into law by President Michael D. Higgins over the weekend.

The actual monetary fine for not wearing a face mask in required areas or travelling beyond the 5km limit of your home is to be finalised this week.

Sinn Fein Spokesperson on Justice, Martin Kenny, believes the bill was rushed through the Dail.

Speaking to OceanFM News, he highlights some of the concerns around the legislation.
