Calls to allow safe in person trading of livestock

Calls are being made from a number of farming organisations to allow some form of in person trading of livestock to take place.

There are also appeals for an urgent upgrade of broadband facilities in rural marts such as in the north west.

It comes after hundreds of animals had to be taken home after an online sales app for livestock crashed yesterday.

Farmers in 15 marts around the country were unable to buy or sell their livestock during a traditionally very busy time of the year for sales.

Patrick Rooney is Chairperson of the Beef Plan Movement.

He says broadband upgrades are needed as soon as possible and is also calling on the government to allow some form of safe, in person trading.
