New Covid-19 restrictions to be introduced at midnight



In the latest Covid-19 figures released by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre, the number of new cases in Sligo has exceeded those of Donegal.

 

27 new cases were reported in Sligo yesterday while 21 new cases were recorded in Donegal.  The number of cases in Sligo was less than 5.

 

13 new Covid-19 deaths were reported yesterday for the Republic of Ireland and 1269 new cases.

 

There are currently 17 people being treated in Letterkenny University Hospital for Covid-19 with two in ICU.  Four people are being treated at Sligo university Hospital for Covid-19.

Level five restrictions will come into effect for the whole country at midnight tonight.

 

People will not be allowed further than 5km from their home unless it’s essential or on compassionate grounds, with fines to be introduced in the coming weeks.

 

All non-essential retail, hairdressers and barbers must close, while pubs, cafes and restaurants can offer a takeaway service only.

 

 

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tony Holohan says schools should still reopen after the midterm break.
