Local Mart Manager unhappy with new guidelines

A local Mart manger has hit out at the latest Guidelines issued by ICOS, Associated Livestock marts and the Department of Agriculture which are aimed at helping Marts continue to operate throughout the next 6 weeks during the Level 5 restrictions.

The new guidelines will allow marts to trade, however all buyers will only be allowed to bid for animals on line and the new restrictions will completely ban farmers from the Mart Ring.

Eimear McGuinness is the manager of Donegal Co-operative Livestock Mart. She says the new guidelines will simply not work in many parts of the Country and will result in prices for cattle dropping.

Speaking earlier to Ocean FM news she explained how there are many challenges are  associated with online sales, and  expressed the fear than farmers could resist brining cattle to marts and this in turn could lead to further problems such as a fodder crisis developing.
