Mike Ryan, Phil Hogan and Taoiseach to feature at online MacGill School

The Sligo-born executive director of the World Health Organisation, Dr Mike Ryan, will be among the guests at this year’s MacGill School in Glenties, Co Donegal, which starts on Thursday.

The event, which will not be public, will be in video conference format and will be streamed online.

This year’s MacGill School will be formally opened at 12:15pm on this Thursday by the former president of Ireland, Dr Mary Robinson, who will deliver the annual John Hume lecture.

Among the participants will be the former EU Commissioner Phil Hogan, who resigned after his attendance at a gathering of the Oireachtas Golf Society in Clifden, County Galway, last August.

Taoiseach Micheal Martin will be interviewed by journalist Olivia O Leary at 12:45pm on Saturday.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the event.

MacGill School Director Joe Mulholland says that even though it will be a virtual event, there will be an opportunity for viewers to put their questions to participants.

As might be expected, much of the discussion at this year’s school will revolve around Covid-19, the ongoing efforts to curtail the pandemic and its consequences.
