Government trying to ‘hide our shame’ on Mother & Baby Homes

The government is trying to ‘hide our shame’ in relation to plans to seal the archive of the Mother and Baby Homes Commission for 30 years.

Those are the views of Sligo People Before Profit Councillor, Gino O’Boyle, who further stated that the government is trying to ‘hide information’.

The commission is due to publish their findings on the 30th of October and it is to be discussed in the Seanad this week.

Under the 2004 Commissions of Investigation Act, investigations under this banner are to be held in private.

However, numerous campaign groups have expressed concern over locking the information away.

Speaking to OceanFM News, Councillor O’Boyle believes the reports should be made available.
