Rovers keeper on the bench for Italy clash

Sligo Rovers goalkeeper Ed McGinty is amongst the substitutes for Ireland in tonight’s Euro U-21 Qualification group stage game with Italy.

Due to positive Covid cases in the Italian camp the game was postponed last week and will be played today at 4:00.

Italy will field their U-20 squad for Covid safety.

Ireland are top of the group and three points ahead of Italy.

A win tonight would almost guarantee a place in the U-21 Euro championships, which Ireland have never qualified for.

Ireland are without Dara O’Shea and Jason Knight who were called up to the Republic of Ireland first team, who play Finland this week.

The Irish U-21s kick off today in Pisa at 4, with more details on the FAI website and twitter page.
