Local groups ‘have to borrow before they get grants’

A Donegal councillor is highlighting the difficulties faced by various groups, including even the county council, by having to spend grant monies before they get the grant.

Independent Councillor Niamh Kennedy says that in some cases, it results in groups having to borrow money in advance of them receiving a grant.

She says this affects a variety of groups, including Bord Iascaigh Mhara, Leader and small, local community organisations.

She is to raise the issue at today’s meeting of Donegal Municpal District councillors in the St John Bosco Community Centre in Donegal Town.

She told Ocean FM News that there is now so much red tape involved in grant applications that some groups just give up.
