Jim McGuinness helps train Galway senior footballers

Donegal’s 2012 All-Ireland winning manager Jim McGuinness was filmed conducting football drills at Tuam Stadium on Sunday.

It’s understood he oversaw some of the session while conducting a sports psychology and performance module with the players that could not take place indoors because of Covid-19 restrictions.

His involvement with the Galway coaching session last Sunday is understood to have been an ‘informal’ arrangement.

The Donegal man and current Galway senior team manager Padraic Joyce have a friendship which goes back several years. They were team-mates on IT Tralee’s Sigerson Cup-winning team in 1998.

During his four years as Donegal senior manager, McGuinness guided his home county to two All-Ireland finals (winning one) and three Ulster titles.

In more recent times, he has been involved in soccer coaching and management, having had spells in Glasgow with Celtic, China and in the United States.

He was sacked as manager of Charlotte Independence in the US last June after just one win in 14 games.
