Sligo councillor insists on special meeting to discuss Development Plan

A Sligo county councillor is insisting that councillors have taken the right decision in agreeing to hold a special meeting to discuss the County Development Plan, despite it now costing about €5,000 to hold such a meeting because of Covid-19 restrictions and rules.

Full council meetings can no longer be held in the council chamber in County Hall in Riverside. They must instead take place in areas large enough to allow social distancing.

Because of this, a number of meetings have been held in the Knocknarea Arena in IT Sligo.

Also, meetings are now limited to an hour and 55 minutes.

Yesterday’s monthly meeting of councillors took place in the ballroom of The Sligo Park Hotel, where there were differences of opinion about holding a special meeting.

But Cllr Donal Gilroy says having the meeting may result in less cost in the long run when it comes to the County Development Plan.
