Fisheries bill to be debated in the Dáil today



A Donegal TD has appealed to the government to listen to the voice of fishermen ahead of a debate which is due to take place today on the  statutory instrument’ recently signed by An Taoiseach Micheál Martin.

 

The recently introduced bill has imposed a penalty points system for Ireland’s offshore fishing fleet.

 

 

Sinn Féin spokesperson on Fisheries, Donegal TD Pádraig Mac Lochlainn TD says the news legislation is unfair and unjust.

 

 

Deputy MacLochlainn says the North West’s fishermen are already enduring the impact of Covid-19 and facing a potentially livelihood threatening Brexit and that introducing the new penalty points legislation could threaten the livelihood of several jobs in the North West:
