Sligo rower Brian Colsh wins European silver

Sligo Rowing Club’s Brian Colsh helped the Ireland men’s coxless quad to win a silver medal at the European Junior Rowing Championships in Serbia on Sunday.

19-year-old Colsh, sitting in the bow seat in the Ireland boat produced a storming second 500 metres to push eventual winners Russia all the way.

Brian’s parents Tommy and Rosaleen watched the drama unfold on TV screens with some local rowing club friends by the shoreline of Lough Gill on Sunday.

It was an emotional watch as they explained to Austin O’Callaghan:

Colsh (jnr) won silver along with Cork duo Andrew Sheahan, Adam Murphy and Kenmare’s Tom Kelly.

Brian returns home with the Ireland team on Monday. Each rower and team official will be required to self-isolate for 14 days as Serbia is not on Ireland’s ‘green’ list of travel countries as per the current Covid regulations.
