Today is the 4th annual ‘Make Way Day’

Today is the 4th annual ‘Make Way Day’ which aims to focus attention on the difficulty those with a disability have in navigating public spaces.

The campaign is backed by the Disability Federation of Ireland and is supported by 29 Local Authorities around the country.

Cars and wheelie bins on footpaths, overgrown hedges and bicycles tied to lamp posts or railings are just some of the objects that can entirely block a person with a disability from going about their day to day lives.

Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, Dara Mulvey, say the initiative is a community effort.
