Oral hearing expected on link road in Sligo town



A Bord Pleanala oral hearing is expected to take place before the end of this year in relation to the long-running issue of a proposed road linking two of the busiest areas in Sligo town.

The road would link two junctions, the Mail Coach Road/Connolly Street junction with the Pearse Road/Burton Street junction.

Independent Socialist Councillor Declan Bree told a meeting of councillors from the Sligo Borough Municipal District that this was a relatively small project but it had been delayed for more than a decade because of lack of funding.

He says the ongoing delay continues to cause significant difficulties for residents of the lower St Bridget’s Place area because motorists must use that area for access until such time as the new link road is completed.

Council Director of Services Tom Kilfeather told the municipal district meeting there was one objection to a compulsory purchase order, as a result of which An Bord Pleanala must hold an oral hearing.
