ANC payments on the way to farmers

The IFA Deputy President Brian Rushe has welcomed that announcement by Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue that €185m of ANC payments will be made to 86,000 farmers over the coming days.

Speaking in relation to the funding, Mr Rush said that the payment is a vital support to farmers whose incomes are generally low and where farming is challenging due to marginal land.

Brian Rushe added that it was vitally important that this good start to payments is maintained as direct payments make up a significant proportion of farm income on a substantial number of farms.

In some other news relating to Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue, the Donegal TD has confirmed that the HSE has resumed serial Covid-19 testing of all staff in meat processing factories.

Siptu says there have been 1,500 cases among workers and 31 separate outbreaks in these settings.

Last week the mass testing regime was suspended, due to an increase in suspected cases in the community.
