Donegal TD welcomes new player in Mortgage market

A Donegal TD claims the interest rates being charged by a new entrant to the mortgage market proves that Irish customers have been ripped off for years.

Sinn Fein Deputy Pearse Doherty, who is his party’s spokesman on finance, was commenting after Spanish-owned lender Avant Money began offering borrowers fixed and variable rates below the average offered already by banks here.

Deputy Doherty says the arrival of Avant Money in the Irish market, and the rates it is charging, highlights the costs that Irish customers have been enduring compared to others in Europe.
