Minister McConalogue intervenes in TB row after emotional video by Leitrim farmer

If you were tuned into yesterday evening’s (Tuesday) farm bulletin on Ocean FM, you would have heard the heart-rending plight of Leitrim farmer Kevin Comiskey after he received a letter from the Department of Agriculture in relation to culling animals from his herd because of TB concerns.

As a result of a video Mr Comiskey made, and which was shared on Ocean FM’s web site, the Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue has confirmed today that he will reconvene discussions in the TB Forum.

IFA President Tim Cullinan has urged the Minister to ensure real change is delivered in the TB programme, including a withdrawal of the herd risk letters and a meaningful opportunity for farmers to have input.

Speaking to Ocean FM’s John Lynch, the IFA President said the Minister and his officials should not underestimate the level of anger amongst farmers over the issue.
