Septic tank inspections are to be carried out in Co. Leitrim.
People will be contacted in advance of an inspection by Leitrim County Council; if you are not contacted, an inspection will not be carried out.
In July of last year, A report by the Environment Protection Agency found more than half of septic tanks inspected in Sligo and Leitrim had failed a test while just a third had failed in Donegal.
The aim of the test is to ensure their is no risk to people or the environment and will check for leaks, ensure water from the likes of showers and washing machines are connected to the treatment system and to check that roof and surface water are diverted away from system.
