With Covid restrictions eased, more people heading for the woods

There has been a significant increase in the number of people visiting Coillte forests since Covid-19 restrictions were eased.

One of those forests, Hazelwood, on the shore of Lough Gill near Sligo town, saw more than 23,824 between June and early August.

There were also increases in the number of visitors to forests in Donegal and Leitrim, which have some of the finest woodlands in the country.

Pat Neville is communications manager for Coillte.
