Work is due to begin today on a new 80 bed unit at the Sheil Hospital in Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal.
A statement from the HSE says it is to service south Donegal, north Sligo and north Leitrim and will have 66 single bedrooms and 7 twin bedrooms providing short and long stay accommodation for residents and patients of the Sheil Hospital and Rock Nursing Unit.
The project consists of a three storey extension at the back of the hospital and upgrading the existing building with Boyle Construction Ltd. from Letterkenny as the main contractors
Ballyshannon based Fine Gael Councillor and Leas Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Barry Sweeney, is welcoming the news and says they will be a slight disruption to traffic
