Former senator and Sligo councillor apologises ‘unreservedly’ for attendance at Oireachtas golf dinner

A former Sligo Fine Gael county councillor and senator has apologised for her attendance at the Oireachtas Golf Society dinner in Clifden, Co Galway.

Imelda Henry says she did so in a private capacity.

In a statement issued to Ocean FM this afternoon, Imelda Henry says she did so while on holidays on Wednesday last.

And she says she did so under the advice from the event’s organisers that it was fully compliant with the Irish Hotels Federation and Fáilte Ireland’s COVID-19 regulations.

In this afternoon’s statement, she says she profoundly regrets her decision to attend the dinner aspect of the event.

She also said her attendance showed a gross lack of judgement on her part.

She concluded: “I am acutely aware of the huge upset this issue has caused to many people nationally and, for this reason, I want to apologise unreservedly.”
