Sligo Bay lifeboat assist surfer

Sligo Bay Lifeboat crew assisted a lone surfer yesterday evening.

Concerned members of the public called the coastguard after noticing a surfer heading out to sea in fading light.

The volunteer lifeboat crew remained at the scene while the surfer made their own way to shore assisted by Rescue 118.

Eithne, helm on the lifeboat in Rosses Point, says in this particular case, the surfer was experienced, well equipped and not in any difficulty.

Speaking to OceanFM News, she says this call out was a ‘false alarm with good intent.’
