Sligo native Professor Ivan Perry says stricter measures needed to combat spread of Covid-19

Professor Ivan Perry, a native of Ballymote, Co Sligo, is Dean of Public Health at University College, Cork. He is also a member of the Zero Covid Ireland group of experts that is calling for a tougher, stricter line in dealing with the virus here in Ireland. Its proposals include a ban on all non-essential travel, testing and tracking of all incoming people, and more active case-finding and contact tracing. He warns that without a fundamental change in the current strategy of attempting to live with the virus, we are sleepwalking toward a major surge of infections in October/November this year.
