Bundoran publican fears rural pubs will be ‘penalised for the sins of others’

There has been widespread anger after scenes from a Dublin pub in which customers were seen crowding around a bar as a man was dancing on it while wearing a mask and pouring drink into the mouths of other customers. It has led to fears that such incidents will result in the government extending its ban on the opening of pubs like those in rural areas that do not serve food.

Diarmaid Doherty, of The Bank Bar in Bundoran, which is closed, agrees that pubs that break the rules should be penalised but he fears what happened in Dublin will lead to rural pubs ‘being penalised for the sins of others.’

Mr Doherty outlined his concerns on the North West Today Show.
