A representative from the Department of Justice is to visit Sligo County Council next month in relation to the controversial decision not to go ahead with a new garda station in the town but to upgrade the current Garda headquarters instead.
A site had been purchased at Caltragh by the Office of Public Works to build a new station.
There are 140 Gardaí and civilian workers employed at the station.
Independent Councillor Marie Casserly, who put forward a forward inviting the Justice Minister and the Garda Commissioner to Sligo, believes upgrading the current station isn’t adequate for the long-term.
