A local councillor says the expansion of the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance Scheme will benefit many families throughout region.
There is almost €153m being made available compared to last years expenditure of nearly €54m.
The allowance is means tested and eligible children aged between 4 and 11 years can receive €150 while those aged 12 to 22 will receive €275.
The deadline for applications is the 30th of September.
Speaking to OceanFM News, Sligo Councillor Thomas Walsh, says seeing that Sligo is also being used to process the applications nationally, the region needs it’s ‘fair share.’
