Sligo Races abandoned due to track safety concerns

Racing at Sligo was abandoned midway through today’s seven-card meeting due to safety concerns.

There were four fallers during the Kevin Egan Cars Handicap – one during the race and three beyond the finish line – with all four horses having difficulty in the same area of the track.

A stewards inquiry was held after the race and it was after this meeting the decision was taken to abandon the meeting.

Racing at Sligo, as at other venues around the country, is being held behind closed doors due to Covid-19 restrictions.
