Sligo Rovers sign Lithuanian Olberkis

Sligo Rovers have bolstered their defensive options with the signing of Lithuanian Sigitas Olberkis.

The 23-year-old joins the Bit O’Red until the end of the season, and arrived in Ireland today (Thursday). He does not need to spend a period in quarantine – unlike other new signing Junior – as Lithuania is on the green list of countries. Those who arrive from countries on that list do not have to restrict their movements on arrival into Ireland.

Olberkis, who plays at centre-half, has experience as an U-21 international and was most recently at Maltese club Senglea Athletic. He has also played club football in Belarus and in Lithuania with Žalgiris.

The new signing is awaiting international clearance ahead of Saturday’s SSE Airtricity League against Shelbourne at The Showgrounds. The game is live on Ocean FM Sport from kick-off at 5pm.
