Problems with parking at Benbulben Forest Walks

There are calls for the government to provide funding for more parking space at one of County Sligo’s leading scenic and tourist destination

It’s at the Benbulben Forest Walks at Gortarowey, beneath the iconic prow of Benbulben Mountain in north Sligo.

The lack of parking space has resulted in cars left on a road verge, with the result that at times access is restricted or blocked for local residents and farmers.

The road surface at the location has also deteriorated with water runoff.

The issue has been raised by local councillors.

But Sinn Fein Councillor Thomas Healy says that because the county council’s road budget has already been allocated, money should be sought from Rural and Community Affairs Minister Heather Humphrey’s department under the recently announced Rural Regeneration Fund.
